Top Five Reasons to Use Gmail

Google may be taking over the world, but have you let the search engine beast take over your email yet? Here are five tempting reasons to make the switch to Gmail!

1. It's Free! We can probably leave at just that, huh? But let's go on...

2. The chat interface is AWESOME! Chat right inside Gmail. Whenever you're checking your email, you're automatically logged in to chat. Download the fantastic Google Talk application for an even better chat and email management experience!

3. Seemingly unlimited storage space I'm at 7094 MB and counting

4. Label & search, don't sort! No need to create clunky folders when you can star and label emails. Searching for a particular email is just as seamless as a regular Google search.

5. An address book and mail management system that works for you, not the other way around. Don't bother looking up someone's email in your address book, just begin typing in any part of their name or email address to watch Gmail magically identify the address for you! And instead of 10+ "re:friday night" emails in your inbox, all emails pertaining to the same conversation are collapsed into one email that you can click on and expand.

So, what are you waiting for? Give Gmail a trial today! You won't regret it.

More compelling reasons to use Gmail.

I also am sold on Google Documents, which you get free with a Gmail account. What a way to organize projects where your main communication is email!

So many sites, so little time....it's either like a kid in a candy shop or like being in a maze.

I actually like having folders with my Yahoo! account because I'm less likely to accidently delete e-mails that I want to keep.

Sounds interesting. If only I didn't have a gazillion different email account already! I like that you are automatically logged into IM when you are logged into your gmail. Hmm...

I don't know what I'd do without Gmail. And, **5p34k1nt0ngu35**, just so you know, you don't even ever have to delete anything in Gmail. You have such a large storage amount, that deleting isn't even an issue. Also, you can Archive your mail that you want to keep but don't want to get rid of, but it won't clutter up your inbox.

I also love to use the Tags and the Filter together. For example, I set up a filter that will flag my eBills and add a tag that says "bills," and will start them so I know I still need to deal with them. Then, when it comes time to pay them, I click on my "bills" tag and only those email appear.

Since I've started using Gmail, I've never looked back or missed any other type of email provider. ;)

In Science, Business and News at Main, we offer classes for customers to sign up for Gmail accounts. They always enjoy completing the application and creating their usernames and original and unique passwords. I personally use my Gmail account as a reminder of things to do. I put stars on th. . . the tasks to complete, then remove the stars when completed.

After using aol for years -- at least 10 -- I switched to Gmail. I love it because I am able to forward my aol to it, the folders and archive features, how it stacks a conversation/ email threads, and it works fantastic with my Blackberry!

I have to say, I like the folders too. I've never had a problem with them or found them clunky. As a matter of fact, I just opened a piece of mail in my latest account, & when I went back in to my Inbox, it had been "archived"--the only problem being, they neglected to tell me where. I clicked on the word Archive, & it told me nothing was selected, so I tried clicking on several other things--all with no luck.
I'll figure it out eventually, but I must say, it's really not convenient when new services change protocols (?) without telling you. Sigh

Gmail is excellent! One of my favorite features is the tabbed conversations you can have with one or more email contacts. This way you have one long conversation with say 20 messages instead of 20 separate emails.

Reading through the list of features, I can see some really useful things that would make email much easier. I especially like the way Gmail stacks conversation thread emails together. That is both intuitive and efficient.

I really like the idea of a free email account that has deluxe features like autofill for your frequent contacts or people in your address book. I rely on that constantly at work and would probably love it at home, too.

I really love the idea of a free non-work email account that has all the deluxe features that our work email has. The auto-fill for names and addresses is just great.

I love gmail! I think that you cannot get a better free email! I have had most of the other free ones and gmail is by far the best!

When you archive an email, you can access it by searching for it or by clicking on "all mail" -- where, you guessed it, all your mail will appear, whether it be a chat, something in your inbox, something you archived, etc.
It is certainly a slightly different approach and something that takes a while to get used to.

It's free. It's easy. It's accessible from anywhere. What's not to like?

Gmail rocks, I've been using it for the past three or four years.
While I agree with **5p34k1nt0ngu35** about folders, but as Joy said, you can work around that with the search function and the amount of storage available. Go check it out!

I know people love their folders, but labels in Gmail are so much better! Instead of having to pick which folder to put something in, you can give it as many labels as you like to more easily find it later. And with the excellent search capabilities, you never have to worry about losing an email! Gmail is amazing!

I'm thinking that because of Learn and Play I now have way to many e-mail addresses to keep track of. Aftr reading through the blog I'm going to go exploring more through the gmail options. I've been thinking I might change over to that anyway. Certainly it's easy to check from any computer. I like that idea.
