Chat with Us!

Got a burning question that you need to ask but can't get to a phone? Sounds like you need to help us test out our new Instant Message (IM) service. We want your feedback!

CML has launched a new chat reference service. As you know, IM is a way to communicate over the Internet on your computer or PDA. You can even text us from your cell phone and we can reply to your phone using the IM service. You don't need an existing IM account in order to use the service, just start typing in the chat box and submit your question that way! We need you to try it out and tell us what you think. Send us your feedback by replying to this blog post!

The great thing about our IM chat service is that it's available all hours when the library is open. The service will be available Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 9 PM, Friday and Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday 1-5 PM. Give it a try... and then give us your thoughts!

I had a nice, short chat today at 1:05 p.m.

It looks as if the staff can't push pages as we do with Know It Now, but I did get a live link, which also works fine.

I like it!

I did try the IM chat service yesterday. I think it will be very convenient for many people who want a quick instant answer. Great tool!

maybe i should ask the question differently and more specifically?
What is the difference between "Know it NoW" and this Chat line?

Here's the differences, PeachesLaRue: First, this chat service does not require our customers to log into a separate service, such as KIN. Now we can reach customers through THEIR preferred method of IM service, such as Gtalk, AIM, Yahoo, etc... With KIN, you have to log into their interface, which isn't as convenient as going to where our customers are already. Also, our customers will be chatting with a librarian who works at CML, not at a library in Cleveland or somewhere else in Ohio. So the service is more immediate! :) Hope this helps!

I just used the service and it worked great! Staff were friendly and I got my answer right away.

The chat service is convenient for students who are away at school and can't physically walk in and talk to a librarian. It is a service that is up-to-date and is able to keep up with our booming generation, technologically speaking.
