Tools and Technology!

Welcome to "Tooling Around!" This is where we blend all things wonderful about the library with all things cool about technology. We'll discuss web-based tools, Web 2.0, and new technology and we encourage you to share your tech ideas and suggestions. How do you use the web? What web technology experiences do you want to share? Let's see what we can discover together!

And don't forget to download the Library Toolbar to your browser! We're going to be looking into creating more down-loadable applications that will enable you to take the library with you wherever you go on the Web. And with your feedback, we can make sure we develop the ones YOU want.

RSS feeds are not being updated as quickly as the ordering is being done. When referring to the New DVD feed from the CML toolbar, the most recent things are titles like Good Luck Chuck and Gone Baby Gone.

Using a call number search of "On Order", Format: "DVD" results in much newer items being displayed. Additionally, using the RSS feed link from this page in a reader such as WIZZ RSS displays newer items than using the toolbar, but they are unfortunately not the newest items.

This was an excellent suggestion! We modified the RSS feeds and hope that they are more up-to-date now. Thanks!

Are you aware of any way to limit or extend the number of items with the RSS feeds, similar feeds on My Yahoo? I'd like them to be more configurable than Yahoo, though--such as a range of 5 to 50 items to display per "New Item" feed.

Also, it would be more useful if items such as books and CDs would include the authors.

Thanks for your feedback! Right now, we're limited as to what we can do with the RSS feeds. We are working on the issues with the feeds from our new catalog, so we hope to enhance things as we go along. This toolbar is a work-in-progress, so we hope to not only tweak the RSS feeds, but other elements too. We will certainly keep your comments in mind as we move forward! Thank you for sharing them!
